Paris: On September 23rd, French rapper Mohamed Sylla, widely known as MHD, received a 12-year prison sentence for his involvement in a 2018 case. The incident involved a fatal gang fight in Paris, resulting in the death of 23-year-old Loic K.

The tragic events unfolded when MHD's Mercedes struck Loic K in the 10th arrondissement of Paris on July 5th, 2018. Following the collision, a group of about twelve individuals attacked and fatally stabbed the victim. French authorities characterized the incident as a confrontation related to "gang rivalry." In addition to MHD, five co-defendants were also convicted and received prison sentences ranging from 10 to 18 years for their roles in the murder. Notably, three other individuals were acquitted in the case. Those convicted, including rapper MHD, have a 10-day window to appeal the verdict.

MHD, known for his "Afro trap" music, consistently maintained his innocence throughout the trial. In his final statement to the court, he reiterated his stance, saying, "From the beginning, I have maintained my innocence in this case and I will continue to maintain my innocence." Despite MHD's denial of being present at the murder scene and his claims that the evidence against him was based on rumors, a nearby resident captured the incident on video from his window in the summer of 2018. The car involved was quickly identified as belonging to MHD. Additionally, other witnesses recognized MHD due to his distinctive haircut and clothing.

The day after the murder, the car was discovered abandoned and burned in a parking lot. Juliette Chapelle, a lawyer representing the victim's family, commented after the verdict, stating, "A judicial truth emerged despite the law of silence." It's worth noting that the prosecutor had initially sought an 18-year prison sentence for Mohamed Sylla (MHD), acquittal for two of the defendants, and sentences ranging from 13 to 20 years in prison for the others. The tragic incident occurred in the Cite des Chaufourniers, a neighborhood where MHD had previously worked as a pizza delivery driver and continued to visit despite achieving fame as a music artist.
