New Delhi, July 19: Aircel-Maxis deal case of 2006 under which then finance minister P Chidambaram alleged permitted M/S Global Communication Holding Services Ltd to invest in Aircel against the rules of  Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB), on Thursday observed a new phase.

A new chargesheet is filed today in a Delhi Court by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).  P Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram among other serving or retired officials of India have listed their names in the fresh chargesheet. The Patiala House Court will consider the chargesheet on 31st July.

CBI in the chargesheet mentioned that two sets of money trails were found in the clearances allotted by FIPB. The agency also alleged that the former FM have misused the powers and disdained FIPB rules to allow Maxis to acquire 74% stake in Aircel.

The case which has its roots in the 2G spectrum have sought Karti’s arrest in February when he returned from the United Kingdom. Later, Patiala House Court extended father-son duo’s interim protection till August in the same case. Recently, on 10th July, Enforcement Directorate remarked on Aircel-Maxis money laundering case and stand against the anticipatory bail provided to Chidambaram. They claimed that if bail will be granted in the matter than it would be difficult for them to reach the truth.
