Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb said on Saturday that Agartala will have flights connecting it to the Bangladeshi cities of Dhaka and Chittagong. Within the next six months, services on the international routes Agartala-Dhaka and Agartala-Chittagong are expected to begin. According to an official, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) would soon issue tenders for expressions of interest from private airlines interested in operating along the routes.

“Finally, MBB Airport in Agartala is now set to have an international flight service with Dhaka & Chittagong. My heartfelt thanks to Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi ji & Civil Aviation Minister Shri @JM_Scindia ji for this initiative to fulfill the dream of the people of Tripura,” Deb said in a tweet.

“The proposed international flight service with Bangladesh will surely boost Tripura tourism & take the state to a new height in terms of air connectivity. It will also benefit the people of Bangladesh in various ways and strengthen relations between two countries,” he said in another Twitter post.

The proposed international routes have been included in the UDAN project, according to Sanjoy Mishra, the chief minister's Officer on Special Duty (OSD). "The MoCA will now issue tenders seeking expressions of interest from private airlines interested in operating on the two international routes," he stated.

The MoCA has already selected the two routes, so international flight services from Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport are scheduled to resume within the next six months, he said.
