Born in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh on July 10, 1951, Rajnath Singh is a prominent Indian politician and currently the Defence Minister of India. He was the Home Minister in the previous Government and is the former Chairman of the present ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He was earlier the president of the BJP's youth wing and the BJP's Uttar Pradesh army. Initially, he was a lecturer of physics, but he used his long relationship with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh to join the Janata Party, which led to his long-term position in Uttar Pradesh.

Rajnath Singh is the deputy leader of the BJP in the 17th Lok Sabha. Rajnath Singh started his political career in Uttar Pradesh from 2000 to 2002 as Agriculture Minister under the rule of the CM of Uttar Pradesh and the Rashtriya Janata Alliance. Rajnath Singh has also served as BJP President twice. Earlier, the sub-achievement was only the names of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L.K.Advani. Rajnath Singh first became the BJP's National President on December 31, 2005 and was party Chief for the second time from January 23, 2013 to July 09, 2014.
On May 26, 2014, Shri Rajnath Singh was sworn in as Union Minister of India in the newly formed government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Rajnath Singh has been appointed as Defence Minister during the second term of the Modi government. On May 30, 2019, Shri Rajnath Singh was sworn in as The Union Minister of India. On 1st June 2019, Mr Singh took over as Union Defence Minister.
