Fruit vendor detained in Karnataka with alleged ties to IS

KOPPAL: On Monday, police in the Koppal district of Karnataka said the arrest of a fruit vendor who may have connections to the Islamic State (IS) terrorist organisation. The detained person was known as Shabbir Mandalagiri, a resident of Binnigida region in Gangavathy town, where he worked.

The police claimed that Mandalagiri was taken into custody after his home was searched on Sunday night. In the meantime, the police in Shivamogga, who are looking into the issue, have stepped up their efforts to apprehend Mohammad Shariq, a textile salesman who is the cartel's kingpin in Karnataka. 

Shariq reportedly managed to escape after the arrest of Maaz Munir and Syed Yasin. The terror suspects who were apprehended admitted to carrying out successful trial bombs on the banks of the Tunga Bhadra River and setting fire to an Indian flag.

The police said that they intended to overthrow the current Central government in order to establish a caliphate in India.

They radicalised educated youth to raise their voices to establish an Islamic state in India. Investigations also turned up the accused's desire to implement Sharia law.

After a dispute over the Veer Savarkar flex row in Shivamogga, Jabiulla was taken into custody in connection with a stabbing case, bringing the accused to public attention.
