The Director of Federation of Sweets and Namkeen Manufactures (FSNM) Feroze Naqvi said the new norms has brought relief to the end consumers but the owners will face difficulties in writing ‘Best Before date’ as it is not practical. There is a large range of sweets displayed on the tray or containers for sales on which to change the date repeatedly will be a difficult part. He added the order commenced in February was extended twice due to corona and now from October 1, it has been made compulsory.
The FSSAI order gave relief to the consumers as they will know till which date the product is edible. Prior to this order, there was a possibility to spoil health spending one’s own money by consuming spoilt food. Now, the ‘best before date’ has made everything transparent.
This order from FSSAI is applicable for unpacked items whereas packaged sweets, Namkeens and all other sealed food items have to come for sale with the date of manufacture and the date of expiry or best till date.
