New Delhi: In a remarkable display of artistry and environmental consciousness, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is poised to introduce the world to the G20 Park, an innovative exhibit nestled in Chanakyapuri. Scheduled for a grand inauguration on Monday, this park boasts an awe-inspiring collection of 19 sculptures, each representing the national birds and animals of the G20 member nations. What sets these sculptures apart is their unique origin, as they have been meticulously crafted from recycled metal scrap, breathing life into the concept of 'waste-to-art.'

The G20 Park's grand unveiling is just one of the many facelifts New Delhi is undergoing in preparation for the upcoming G20 Summit, slated to convene on September 9-10.

The inception of this artistic endeavor dates back to April when a team of gifted artists, affiliated with the prestigious Lalit Kala Akademi, embarked on the challenging journey of crafting these stunning sculptures in Garhi village. By July, these masterpieces were brought to fruition. Subsequent efforts saw the park's landscape being thoughtfully designed, with the sculptures finding their permanent homes since July.

An official from the NDMC elaborated on the park's significance, stating, "The park will be inaugurated on Monday. The sculptures have been specially curated by artists to symbolize sustainability through representations from each of the G20 nations."

As early as January, the council had conceived the idea of developing a G20 Park in New Delhi, serving as a symbol of 'togetherness on the path of development.' Grounded in the theme of "One Earth, One Family, One Future" (Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam), the park's prime location is on Kautilya Marg.

"The pieces for the G20 park have been conceptualized, designed, and curated by a team of renowned artists who have earlier worked on waste-to-art projects. Each sculpture has been handcrafted and is a testimony to the fact that waste can be turned into wonderful objects," shared V Nagdas, chairman of Lalit Kala Akademi.

Furthermore, an NDMC representative highlighted the active involvement of approximately 50 students from universities in the National Capital Region (NCR) who participated as volunteers in the sculpture-making process. Each sculpture is accompanied by an informative plaque, detailing information about the specific bird or animal, its country of origin, and crediting the artist responsible for its creation.

The raw materials utilized in crafting these magnificent sculptures were sourced from NDMC storage facilities and encompassed items like iron bars, vehicle components, metal plates, wire mesh, and various other discarded materials. Notably, officials have also designated specific selfie spots within the park for visitors to capture lasting memories.

The G20 Park is an impressive showcase, featuring sculptures representing a diverse array of birds and animals, including the majestic Indian peacock, the iconic American bison, the elusive Brazilian jaguar, the graceful red-crowned crane from China, the enduring Saudi Arabian camel, the enchanting Korean magpie, the stately Australian emu, the charming Canadian gray jay, the formidable Russian brown bear, and the noble Mexican golden eagle. It's important to note that the G20 encompasses not only 19 individual countries but also includes representation from the European Union.

As the world eagerly anticipates the grand unveiling of the G20 Park, it stands as a testament to the harmonious fusion of art, sustainability, and international cooperation. The park promises to be a beacon of inspiration for both locals and visitors alike, encapsulating the spirit of unity and creativity that defines the G20 nations.
