New Delhi: The G20 summit witnessed an exhaustive effort of 200 hours of continuous negotiations, involving 300 bilateral meetings and the creation of 15 draft documents, all aimed at reaching a consensus on the Ukraine conflict. This monumental achievement paved the way for the adoption of the New Delhi Declaration by the G20.

Amitabh Kant, the G20 Sherpa, acknowledged the tireless work of two members of his team and shed light on the complexity of the process. He stated, "The most complex part of the entire #G20 was to bring consensus on the geopolitical paras (Russia-Ukraine). This was done over 200 hours of non-stop negotiations, 300 bilateral meetings, 15 drafts. In this, I was greatly assisted by two brilliant officers - @NagNaidu08 & @eenamg," he posted on social media.

The G20's endorsement of the New Delhi Declaration is being hailed as a significant victory for India, particularly considering the challenges faced in reaching a consensus due to the Ukraine conflict and differences regarding climate change mitigation. Following the bloc's unanimous approval of the New Delhi Declaration, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced, "I have received good news. Due to the hard work of our team, consensus has been built on New Delhi G20 Leaders' Summit Declaration. My proposal is to adopt this leadership declaration. I announce to adopt this declaration. On this occasion, I congratulate my Sherpa, ministers, who worked hard for it and made it possible."

During a recent press briefing, Mr. Kant highlighted the essence of India's G20 presidency, stating, "When we started the presidency, PM Modi said that India's presidency should be inclusive, decisive, and action-oriented. The New Delhi Declaration comprises 83 paragraphs in total, and every single one of them has garnered unanimous support from all member countries. Of particular note are eight paragraphs dedicated to geopolitical issues under the theme 'Planet, People, Peace, and Prosperity,' all of which have achieved complete consensus."

He further emphasized, "All countries have unequivocally endorsed the New Delhi Leaders Declaration. This declaration stands as a complete statement without a single footnote and without the need for a Chairs Summary. It enjoys 100% unanimity." The G20 Sherpa has garnered widespread acclaim for his and his team's tireless efforts in fostering consensus on critical matters, including the Ukraine conflict.
