The Group of Seven (G7) leaders have issued a stern warning to Iran, urging it to halt its advancing nuclear enrichment program. They also indicated they are prepared to impose new measures if Iran transfers ballistic missiles to Russia.

In a communique report, the G7 leaders stated, "We urge Tehran to cease and reverse nuclear escalations, and stop the continuing uranium enrichment activities that have no credible civilian justifications." A recent report from the United Nations nuclear watchdog revealed that Iran has rapidly increased its uranium-enriching centrifuges at its Fordow site and is setting up additional ones. Currently, Iran is enriching uranium to 60% purity, which is close to the 90% needed for weapons-grade material. According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Iran now possesses enough uranium at this level to produce three nuclear weapons if further enriched.

"Iran must engage in serious dialogue and provide convincing assurances that its nuclear program is exclusively peaceful," the G7 leaders emphasized. They called for full cooperation with the IAEA’s monitoring and verification mechanisms, in line with the Board of Governors' resolution from June 5.

While Iran insists its nuclear program is solely for peaceful purposes, the G7 leaders remain concerned about its intentions.

Additionally, the G7 warned Iran against finalizing any agreements to supply ballistic missiles to Russia, which could be used in the ongoing war in Ukraine. The leaders cautioned, "We call on Iran to stop assisting Russia's war in Ukraine and not to transfer ballistic missiles and related technology. Such actions would represent a significant escalation and a direct threat to European security."
