Dehradun: The dead body of 35-year-old Havildar Rajendra Singh of Garhwal Rifles has been recovered from Dehradun after seven months. Rajendra Singh fell victim to an avalanche while patrolling the Line of Control (LAC) in Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir. There was no trace of him for the past 7 months, but on Saturday, Rajendra Singh's family was informed of the recovery of his body.

According to the family of Rajendra, the army had announced 'Battle Casualty' (martyr in war) of Rajendra Singh in May. Earlier this month, Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat also sent a consolation message to Rajendra's wife. But Rajendra's wife was not ready to believe that her husband was martyred, because the body was not recovered. Rajendra Singh joined the Garhwal Rifles in 2001. According to media reports, Rajendra's cousin and former army officer Dinesh Negi told that Rajendra last came home on Diwali in 2019. When he returned, he got duty at LOC in Gulmarg. On 9 January this year, we received information from the Army that Rajendra was lost somewhere during the evallench.

Dinesh Negi told that, the army searched for three days, but Rajendra could not be found anywhere, after that we gave up hope. I have served in Siachen while on duty in the army, so I know that one cannot survive more than two days by being buried under snow. I also told this to Rajendra's family. But his wife Rajeshwari was not ready to accept this because the body was not recovered. We had also requested the officials of the Ministry of Defense to speed up the search for Rajendra. Dinesh Negi has retired from the post of Nayak in 2015.
