NEW DELHI: Nitin Gadkari, minister for Road Transport & Highways said on Thursday that a professionally managed Public transport system based on electricity in public-private partnership (PPP) mode will get a good response.

The minister suggested building an E-road from Delhi to Jaipur while claiming that green hydrogen is the future of transportation. For economic viability and sustainable development, Gadkari said that new technology, alternative fuels, and innovations in the transportation industry must be developed.

The Minister said that capital investment is not an issue provided there is a proper model to deploy while speaking at "INSIGHT 2022: International Conference on Sustainable and Innovative Finance for Green and Healthy Transportation".

The Minister recommended making an effort to discourage the use of personal vehicles. The Minister praised the London transportation system and stated that people demand more comfort at a lesser cost. In order to save costs for bus companies and facilitate travel, he suggested replacing the physical ticketing systems in the buses with card- or QR-code based entry-exit systems.

The Minister emphasised that we will be able to import less crude oil and diesel as well as reduce pollution with the introduction of electric buses. We are trrying to create an automobile sector worth 15 lakh crore because it has the most potential for employment, creating 4 crore jobs nationwide, and because it also generates the greatest amount of money for both the state and federal governments, he added.
