New Delhi: Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has written to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal expressing displeasure over the delay in completing yamuna cleaning projects. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi is laxincleaning the Yamuna, which has turned into a ringing drain. The central government has expressed strong displeasure over the same delay.
Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in a letter to Delhi CM Kejriwal has assured all possible help from the Central government for cleaning the Yamuna and expressed hope that the Delhi government will give priority to the work. Shekhawat in his letter said that only two per cent of the Yamuna covers Delhi. But the metropolis is responsible for 80 percent of its pollution.
Describing Yamuna as one of the holiest rivers in the country, he said the Central Government provided rs 2419 crore to the Delhi government for various 13 projects to clean it. Even then, the poison of pollution in this river is constantly dissolving. He writes that 3500 million litres of dirty water is discharged daily from 18 drains of Delhi into the Yamuna without treatment. He said that by coming to Delhi, this holy river has turned into a dirty drain.
