The festival of Ganeshotva is celebrated every year with great fanfare in India. The country remains immersed in devotion to Lord Ganesha for 10 whole days. Ganesha sits in big pandals on the streets, mohallas, and crossroads, along with houses. Lord Shri Ganesh occupies a prominent place in Hinduism. Ganesha is worshiped first in any auspicious work. When will Ganeshotsav be celebrated in 2020?

Every year, Chaturthi date of Shukla Paksha of Bhadra month is celebrated as Ganesh Chaturthi. Chaturdashi date of Shukla Paksha of Bhadra month is celebrated as Ganesh Chaturdashi. This year Ganeshotsav will start from 22 August. This festival, which lasts for 10 days, will conclude on 1 September with Ganesh Chaturdashi. Special worship of Ganesha is done for 10 days. People buy idols of Ganesh on this day from the market. After 10 days the idol of Lord Ganesha is duly immersed in the rivers. Lord Ganesha is said to come soon next year.

Since when is Ganeshotsav being celebrated?

Regarding this festival in India, Shiva Purana mentions that this festival has been an invaluable part of Indian culture for centuries. When Peshwas ruled in India, this festival was celebrated on a large scale in the west and south parts of the country. However, with the arrival of the British in India, the festival was lost. Later, it was started again on a large scale by the great philosopher and freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak. In order to organize Hindus, Bal Gangadhar Tilak thought that Ganesha is such a God who is revered at all levels of society. In 1893, Tilak announced to celebrate Ganeshotsava in Pune. This festival started from Maharashtra is celebrated with great enthusiasm in every corner of India today.
