Ganesh Chaturthi 2023: The upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival, marking the birth of Lord Ganesha, is scheduled to kick off on September 19th this year. Lord Ganesha, a highly revered deity, is renowned for embodying wisdom, prosperity, and good fortune. He goes by various names such as Gajanana, Dhoomraketu, Ekdanta, Vakrtunda, and Siddhi Vinayaka.

So, when does Ganesh Utsav start and end in 2023?
According to Hindu mythology, Lord Ganesha's birth falls during the Shukla Paksha of the Bhadrapada month in the Hindu calendar, typically corresponding to the Gregorian months of August-September. This year, Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 19th, 2023, with the Ganesh Visarjan (immersion) occurring on September 28th, 2023.

Timing of Ganesh Chaturthi:
According to the Hindu calendar, Vinayak Chaturdashi 2023 will commence on Monday, September 18th, at 12:39 PM and conclude at 8:43 PM on Tuesday, September 19th. Additionally, the Madhyahna Ganesha Puja Muhurat, a significant part of the celebrations, will begin at 11:01 AM and continue until 01:28 PM, spanning a duration of 2 hours and 27 minutes. To avoid sighting the Moon on the day before Ganesha Chaturthi, it is advised not to look for the Moon from 09:45 AM to 08:44 PM.

Ganesh Chaturthi Celebrations:
During this festival, people warmly welcome Ganpatti Bappa by installing Lord Ganesha idols in their homes on the first day. Devotees adorn and worship the elephant-headed God, bidding farewell by immersing the idols in water after three, five, or ten days.

History of Ganesh Chaturthi:
The grand celebration of this festival has its roots in the time of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. However, it was revived by Bal Gangadhar Tilak to promote unity among people and bridge caste divides. In 1893, he established the first and oldest Mandal, Kesha Keshavi Naik Chawl Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal, at Girgaum. To instill a sense of nationalism, he introduced the tradition of installing a large clay idol of Lord Ganesh in a public place, marking the beginning of the 10-day long celebration.
