Why Lord Ganesha is called Ekadanta - According to the legend, Goddess Parvati went to bathe and seated Ganesha at the main door and told not to let anyone enter. Then Lord Shiva arrived there. When he tried to enter, Ganesh stopped him. Lord Shankar got angry on this and in anger, he severed Ganesha's head. Shivji later gave elephant head to Ganesha.

According to another legend, when Lord Shankar and Mata Parvati were resting in their bedroom, they placed Ganesha at the door and told not to let anyone come. Then Parashurama came there and asked to meet Lord Shankar. But Ganesh ji refused to do so. Parshuram got angry on this and broke one of his teeth with his ax.
