Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Police has arrested three persons for assaulting and robbing men through a gay dating app. The accused used to blackmail gay men by trapping them through apps. Gujarat's Ahmedabad police said that they have busted a gang that used to target and loot gay people.

Gay sex in India no longer falls under the criminal category, but many people of the LGBT community keep their identity secret for fear of being boycotted or a joke in Indian society. That's why they become easy prey for this type of gang. Ahmedabad police officer JP Jadeja said, "Those arrested have confessed to robbing at least 15-20 people. In the last four months, the accused have used the same method to rob."

Police said the accused used the gay dating app Grindr to find potential victims and took them to deserted areas, beat them up or in some cases forcibly transferred money through a bank.
