Great news! 6 UNESCO heritage sites now add two more in India

New Delhi: Six places in India have been included in the list of world heritage sites of UNESCO. Union Culture Minister Prahlad Singh Patel has informed about this. He said that 9 locations were named by the Government of India from the country for inclusion in the possible list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, out of which 6 sites have been sanctioned.

The potential list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, sux sites, including the Ganga ghats in Varanasi, temples of Kancheepuram in Tamil Nadu and the Satpura Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh, have been added to India’s tentative list of UNESCO world heritage sites. With the inclusion of these six places in the probable list, the total number of names given for UNESCO world heritage list from India has gone up to 48. According to the 2019 guidelines, any place is first included in UNESCO's list of possible sites for inclusion in the World Heritage List.

After this guideline, 48 places in India are now included in UNESCO's possible list of World Heritage Sites. In 2020, Gwalior and Orchha cities of Madhya Pradesh were included in the list of World Heritage Cities of UNESCO. Orchha is a place where Lord Ram is worshipped as King Ram. With this, Ahmedabad in Gujarat has been declared as the World Heritage City of UNESCO. Ahmedabad was the first city in India to be declared a World Heritage City.
