Dehradun: In Dehradun, it will be compulsory to give cleaning charges to the people of Cantt area from March 1. The larger the house or commercial establishment, the higher the cleaning fee has also been fixed. It is also being said that a provision has been made to pay a heavy fine to those who do not pay the fee. At the same time, its proposal has been passed in the meeting of Cantt Board Garhi held on Saturday, 22 February 2020.

According to the information, till now houses, shops and commercial establishments located on the Cantt Board did not have to pay any cleaning fee for solid waste management. In December 2019, the Director General Defense Estate (DGDE) directed all the Cantonment Board to prepare solid waste management bylaws and implement it in the cantons. On the same instructions, the Cantt Board Garhi proposed it in the board meeting held on Saturday, 22 February 2020, to implement it. Which has been passed. CEO Tanu Jain said that the fee will be applied from March 1. In the board meeting, some of the councilors also demanded a change in the cleaning fee, but the CEO denied it. He warned that heavy fines will be imposed on those who do not pay cleaning fees.

Penalty will be imposed on non-payment of fees every month and violation of rules: It is also being said that the cleaning fee will start from March 1 in Cantt Garhi. Homes, shops and establishments which do not pay the monthly fee will be fined ten percent of the fees. Also, a provision has been made to pay a fine of two hundred rupees to one lakh on establishments and industries that do not follow Solid Waste Management Bylaws.
