K.Chandrashekhar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, asserted regarding the Gattu irrigation project in the Gadwal constituency that it would most probably occupy an area of 33,000 acres.
On Friday, K.Chandrashekhar Rao laid the foundation stone for the venture at the district of Jogulamba Gadwal. The Minister asserted that the project would allot irrigated water to the districts which face scarcity of rainwater.
The Gadwal constituency including, Gattu, Dharur, Koti Reddy mandals fand covers around 33000 acres of land will be served with the project, and the minister also informed that the scheme intends at building 41 tanks across the area.
The Chief Minister of the state, also informed regarding the project, that it would approximately cost, Rs.553.98 crores. He also expressed his concern towards the water scarcity issue said that the Venture needs to be completed as soon as possible to provide relief to the families.
Declarations regarding the Gattu irrigation project were made during the rule of the erstwhile Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhar Reddy. But no funds were raised for the project.
In September 2012, Kiran Kumar Reddy, the Chief Minister of then, had made announcements that water shall be fetched from Ryalapadu, and will be filled in the Gattu Mandal tanks. Even after the announcement being made, no sponsorship was allotted for about two years.
