Sushmita Sen is one of the most loved actresses in Bollywood. The actress has worked in various Bollywood movies and The OTT platforms gave her a new platform to present her in different characters. The actress is all set to play a role of Transgender activist Gauri Sawant. On the one hand some people are loving it meanwhile some are criticizing it as a female character is playing the role of Transgender and demands a Transgender to play a transgender character.

Gauri Sawant in a recent interview opens up about this and said, “First, I want to make it clear that there are many transgender actors who will be seen in the project, who were picked after a thorough audition process. I am also attached to the project, not as an actor, but in some way. So, it is not just that Sushmita is the only one acting in the project.” 

She further added, “Most of us from the community wanted to be women, and that is the reason we decided to wear a saree. Now, it is a mark of respect for us that a female actor is playing the role, instead of an male actor, which we have seen happening in the past”.

Speaking Sushmita she said, “We need to break these barriers, and open up more channels. Let her (Sushmita) play that role, hum koi aur role kar lene. For instance, I would be really interested in the role of Sushma Swaraj, if her biopic is made someday. Kissko restrict mat karo is my message for all.” 

Speaking about  Gauri Sawant on whom the web series is based. She was seen on Kaun Banega Crorepati season 9 and was supported by Usha Uthup to raise money to build houses for sex workers. Gauri Sawant is a transgender activist from Mumbai. She has been featured in Vicks's ad as a transgender mother who raised an orphaned girl to break the stereotypical representation of third gender.
