In 2023, Praggnanandhaa made history as the youngest chess player globally to reach the World Cup final, following the footsteps of India's Viswanathan Anand. Hailing from Chennai, the unassuming teenager gained prominence in 2022 by defeating Magnus Carlsen several times, drawing attention to India's progress in chess. He also bagged the silver medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games in 2023.

Achieving the title of the youngest grandmaster in India at 12 and the second-youngest worldwide, Praggnanadhaa stands as the fifth-youngest individual to become a grandmaster, joining the ranks of Abhimanyu Mishra, Sergey Karjakin, Gukesh D, and Javokhir Sindarov. Interestingly, his older sister, R. Vaishali, is also a grandmaster, marking them as the world's first brother-sister Grandmaster duo.
