MUMBAI: Embattled industrialist Gautam Adani met the Nationalist Congress Party President Sharad Pawar at his (Sharad Pawar) residence in south Mumbai, today, April 20, morning, party sources said here.
Adani and Pawar were concealed in a secret meeting for nearly two hours, but it is unknown what happened, leading to a lot of rumours in the economic and political worlds.
The meeting was called after Sharad Pawar recently expressed his opposition to a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) investigation into the Adani Group's operations after the scathing exposé by Hindenburg Research.
Later, AFTER a commotion in the national Opposition, Pawar appears to have reversed course and stated politely that he would not object to a Joint Parliamentary Committee if other parties want it.
In its January exposé, Hindenburg Research mentioned that Adani Group entities had engaged in extensive stock manipulation and accounting crimes, which had caused Adani's global ranking to fall from second richest to much below today in just four months.
Earlier, amid a strong opposition campaign demanding an investigation into the Adani Group by a JPC, Pawar had surprised his fellow opposition leaders by favouring a probe into the dealings of the Gujarat-based business house by a Supreme Court-appointed panel.
Clarifying his stance after the ruckus following his comments to a Television channel on last week, Pawar said he was not opposed to the JPC probe, but if the Committee comprises 21 members, then 15 would be from the ruling side and the remaining six from the Opposition side.
