Abu Dhabi: The journey of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) could not go beyond the league stage. The performance of the team was very poor and the decisions of captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni also raised questions. His fellow player Gautam Gambhir believes that the relationship between Dhoni and CSK is very strong. This pair may continue further.

Gambhir has said that the mutual trust between CSK and Mahendra Singh Dhoni is very strong. Due to this, Dhoni can continue to be the captain of the team in 2021 even after the poor performance this year. The three-time IPL winner Chennai failed to make it to the playoffs for the first time in the history of the tournament and is ranked last after losing 8 of the 12 matches. To this, Gambhir said, "I always say that the relationship between the owners and the captain is very big in making CSK. He gave complete freedom to Dhoni and he got full respect from the owners."

Gambhir further said, "I will not be surprised if CSK retains Dhoni. He can play as long as he wants. Maybe next year he will be seen as the captain with the changed Chennai team." Gambhir said that Dhoni is entitled to such honours from the owners. What he did for the team and the respect given to him by the team owners is a wonderful relationship.
