New Delhi: Delhi Capitals (DC) reached the IPL playoffs for the third time in a row, but failed to clinch the title all three times. Shreyas Iyer took over the team in 2019 and 2020, while Rishabh Pant was given the captaincy this season as Iyer was injured before the season. Pant got the captaincy in the first leg of the current season.

Iyer returned in the second leg, but still, the team management kept Pant as captain. The way Pant has captained the team this season has impressed everyone. Looking at his performance, Pant will captain Delhi in IPL 2022 as well, but former India player Gautam Gambhir wants something else. Gambhir has suggested the name of a different player to captain DC in IPL 2022.

Gambhir is the captain who has made Kolkata Knight Riders IPL twice the winner. He then returned to Delhi in 2018. Gambhir had given up the captaincy of the team midway that season and Iyer became captain. Gambhir feels that next season off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin should be given the command of the team. There is going to be a big auction of IPL before next season. It remains to be seen which players DC retain with them.
