Billionaire Gautam Adani has put forth a visionary plan to establish a green hydrogen plant in Sri Lanka, a country where his conglomerate is already deeply engaged in developing a container terminal and a 500 MW wind project.

In an exciting encounter with Sri Lanka President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Adani expressed his enthusiasm for a series of captivating projects in Sri Lanka, which encompass the continued growth of the Colombo Port West Container Terminal, the 500 MW wind project, and an ambitious extension of their renewable energy expertise to produce green hydrogen, an eco-friendly fuel of the future.

The Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) is currently spearheading the development of a substantial USD 700 million container terminal at the bustling Colombo Port, a vital transshipment hub in South Asia.

Expanding their influence further, the Adani group is actively working on the Vizhinjam seaport project in Kerala, a mere 176 nautical miles away from the Colombo port.

In parallel, the conglomerate's renewable energy firm, Adani Green Energy, is diligently setting up two wind projects, one in Mannar at 286 MW and the other in Pooneryn at 234 MW. An impressive USD 500 million investment is fueling these ventures, with completion expected by December 2024.

As for the intriguing green hydrogen project, Gautam Adani tantalizingly hinted at its existence without divulging specific details.

To enlighten those unfamiliar, green hydrogen distinguishes itself as a cleaner alternative compared to other forms of hydrogen, as its production involves splitting water using renewable energy sources. When burned, hydrogen merely emits water vapor, rendering it remarkably eco-friendly.

To further underscore their commitment to a greener future, Adani New Industries Ltd (ANIL) has set a bold target to produce one million tonnes of green hydrogen by the year 2030. This audacious ambition marks another milestone in the world's pursuit of sustainable energy solutions.
