Gaza Strip continue to fire rockets at southern Israel

JERUSALEM: Israel said that despite a purported cease-fire mediated by Egypt, militants in the Gaza Strip continued to launch rockets at southern Israel on Sunday night. A small group of young men are shown on film in Gaza parading after the ceasefire and hailing the Islamic Jihad leaders who were killed as martyrs.

According to a report from Israel's Home Front Command, a cease-fire between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) in Gaza was supposed to start at 8 p.m. local time, but six rockets were launched at southern Israel "minutes" later.

As per the warning, Palestinian Islamic Jihad militants bombarded Tel Aviv and other areas in central Israel with rocket fire.

Near the Gaza border, the settlements of Kisufim, Ein Ha'shlosha, Nirim, and Zikim heard rocket sirens, and the locals were told to seek refuge inside.

State-run Kan TV news reported that a Palestinian worker from the West Bank city of Hebron was injured when a missile struck a factory in the southern Israeli city of Ashkelon. The man had moderate-to-light injuries, according to a statement from Magen David Adom emergency medical services.

A statement issued by the Palestinian health ministry in Gaza where it said that on Sunday night, since Israel started its offensive on the Gaza Strip on Friday, at least 41 Palestinians, including 11 children and four women, have died and 311 have been injured.

As per the earlier reports in Israeli media, PIJ militants fired rockets into southern Israel from Gaza, injuring at least eight Israelis.
