Along with this, PM Narendra Modi, while accusing the railway recruitments of 'politics and corruption' during the tenure of the previous governments, said on Wednesday that it is the country's misfortune that the railways have been made an arena of politics. Modi said that the situation on the railways started changing after 2014, when the people of the country formed a stable government at the centre. He said that, seeing the transformation of Indian Railways, every Indian is proud today. Modi said, 'It has been the misfortune of our country that an important system like the railways, which is such a big part of normal human life, was also made an arena of politics. After independence, India had a large railway network. But the modernization of railroads has always been dominated by political interests.
PM Modi said that out of political interest, it was decided who would become railway minister, who would not, and which train would run at which station. He said that it was political selfishness that got such trains announced in the budget, which never ran. The PM said, 'The situation was such that there was politics in railroad recruitments, and corruption was rampant. By taking away the land of the poor, they were given the bluff of a job in the railways.'
