Brazil: A Brazilian court released a German diplomat on Friday, allowing him to continue the murder investigation in peace. He had been detained earlier this month in connection with the death of his Belgian husband.
Following the passing of his husband, Walter Biot, Uwe Herbert Hahn had been placed under pre-emptive arrest in Rio de Janeiro since that day, August 7. He has not yet been formally charged by the prosecution.
Judge Rosa Helena Guita ruled that prosecutors missed the initial deadline to file charges, which resulted in his release, which was confirmed by Rio de Janeiro's state department of prisons.

Guita noted that "no charges had been filed so far, nine days after the 10-day legal deadline expired," citing a clear "excess of time limit for a criminal action to be filed.

In a statement to Reuters, the Rio de Janeiro prosecutor's office stated that it had not yet received a summons to file charges.

The deadline for submitting the charges has not yet even begun, according to the statement.
When Biot passed away, Hahn claimed that he had suddenly become ill and then fallen from their apartment in the Ipanema neighbourhood.
Police detained Hahn on suspicion of murder after discovering bloodstains in the apartment and concluding that Biot died violently because of multiple wounds revealed by the autopsy.
