German President Steinmeier visits Jama Masjid

Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], Mar 22 (NT): German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Büdenbender visited Delhi’s iconic Jama Masjid.

The President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Thursday visited the Dashashwamedh Ghat to attend the Ganga aarti in Haridwar.

Frank-Walter Steinmeier landed in India yesterday morning to embark on his maiden four-day visit.

He was accompanied by his wife Elke Büdenbender and a delegation of media, Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and ideologists.

Earlier in the day, Germany's First Lady Büdenbender paid a visit to the historical love-monument Taj Mahal situated at Agra in Uttar Pradesh.

Later a day the President will fly to Chennai where German companies are ready to invest largely. He will also visit production and training site at Daimler India Commercial Vehicles and IIT Madras Research Park, an important starting point for modern German-Indian technological cooperation. Prez Steinmeier will also hold talks with representatives of Indian civil society, science and industry. 

German Prez Steinmeier's visit to India is considered noteworthy after German Chancellor Angela Merkel was re-elected to the German Parliament for a record fourth tenure on Wednesday.

Last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Germany in May. (NT)
