Berlin: Berlin is thinking about submitting a bid to host the 2036 Summer Olympics. The proposal has received support from Interior and Sports Minister Nancy Faeser, who argues that it will assist the country in making amends for its past errors.
When asked if Berlin, Germany, could host the Olympics 100 years after Adolf Hitler welcomed the world—aside from athletes from the Soviet Union and a select few other states—to Berlin, she responded on Thursday that it is "conceivable that you deal with it in a special way at the place where it happened, where exclusion and this terrible disregard for humanity took place."
"The 1936 Olympics were awful. In reference to the fact that Hitler sought to use the Olympics to enhance the reputation of his regime throughout the world three years prior to the outbreak of WWII, Faeser said, "The Nazis organised the games as a means of promoting themselves.
Horst Seehofer, Faeser's predecessor, thought the idea was absurd. He stated that in 2019, it might appear to the rest of the world that "Germans are celebrating the centenary of the Nazi Olympics."
However, the current interior minister insisted that applying for the Olympics "would be the right step." She asserted, "I am promoting it very strongly," saying Germany could "set a good example" by utilising the games to advance human rights.

Germany wants to prevent athletes from Russia and Belarus from competing in other international competitions within the country by refusing them visas, Faeser told journalists on Friday, even though the possibility of the 2036 Berlin Olympics remains remote. All regional sports ministers reportedly supported the federal government's initiative at a conference in Frankfurt.
In light of the conflict in Ukraine, Faeser stated that it should be prohibited for Russia and Belarus to use sporting events as "a stage for their propaganda." This was reported by the German newspaper FAZ.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has suggested removing the visa requirement for athletes so they can compete under a neutral flag. A decision regarding the eligibility of Russian and Belarusian athletes for the Paris Olympics in 2024 and future competitions has not yet been made.
With the exception of Spain, Ireland, and Lithuania, the Soviet Union did not attend the 1936 Berlin Olympics, which were attended by almost all Western countries
