NEW DELHI: Germany approved Bharat Biotech's 'Made in India' Covid vaccine Covaxin on Thursday. "Germany has given its approval to Covaxin. As the Federal Cabinet removes restrictions, entrants will no longer be required to show proof of immunisation "In a tweet on Thursday, Bharat Biotech stated.

"The German Federal Cabinet has authorised Covaxin and eased entrance restrictions for persons who have been immunised with WHO-approved vaccines. The law will go into force in June 2022 "In a statement, the vaccine manufacturer said.

The German Ambassador to India, Walter J. Lindner, praised the German government on Thursday for approving Bharat Biotech's Covid vaccine, Covaxin, for travel to India beginning June 1.

The Ambassador took to Twitter to say: "I am very happy that the German government has just decided to accept WHO-listed Covaxin for travel to Germany beginning June 1! This Embassy has been lobbying hard for such a decision (because to Covid backlogs, visa sections are experiencing higher wait times than usual; please be patient)." The World Health Organization (WHO) issued an emergency use listing (EUL) for Covaxin in November of last year.
