New Delhi: The central government has changed its clinical guidelines for the treatment of the rapidly spreading corona virus and its new variant Omicron in the country. In this guideline, the government has instructed doctors to avoid giving steroids to corona infected people. In the new guidelines, it has been asked to take the dosage of different medicines for mild, moderate and severe symptoms of corona. Along with this, it has also been said that if someone is having a persistent cough or is not getting better for two-three weeks, then he should get tested for tuberculosis (TB) or any other similar disease.

It has been said in this guideline that drugs containing steroids, if used earlier or in higher doses, then there is a fear of secondary infection like mucormycosis or black fungus. This also happens due to the use of steroids for longer than necessary. This decision of the government has come at a time when, just a few days ago, the Chief of the Covid Task Force, VK Paul, expressed his regret about the overuse and misuse of steroids drugs in the second wave of Corona.

According to the guidelines, if symptoms of corona arise in the upper respiratory tract and the patient does not have trouble breathing or hypoxia, then it is kept in mild symptoms and he has been advised to be treated in home isolation. At the same time, if the oxygen saturation in a patient is fluctuating between 90 to 93 percent and they are having trouble breathing and have high fever, then they should be admitted to the hospital immediately. These are moderate symptoms and such patients should be kept on oxygen support.
