New Delhi: On the eve of Republic Day, former Jammu and Kashmir CM and veteran Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad has been announced to be given the Padma Bhushan Award (Padma Bhushan 2022). The Congress party seems to be divided into two factions. On the one hand, Congress leaders like Raj Babbar and Shashi Tharoor have congratulated Azad on the Padma award, while on the other hand, Jairam Ramesh has indirectly attacked his own colleague.

In fact, former West Bengal CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has also been announced to be given the Padma Bhushan, but the senior CPM leader refused to accept the honour. Reacting to Bhattacharya's decision, Jairam Ramesh of the Congress tweeted, "Took the right step, he wants to be free, not a slave." It is believed that Jairam's tweet may now heat up the political mercury.

However, there has been no response from Azad's side so far. At the same time, Congress Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor has welcomed Ghulam Nabi Azad to receive this honour. Thiruvananthapuram MP Tharoor tweeted, "Congratulations on ghulam nabi azad being awarded padma bhushan. It is better to be honoured by the government of the other party for their contribution to the public service of anyone."
