New Delhi: Writer Geetanjali Shree's novel 'Tomb of Sand' has been selected for the International Booker Prize. It has been translated by Daisy Rockwell. It was one of 13 books in the world that were shortlisted for the International Booker Prize. It is the first 'fiction' in the Hindi language, which was in the running for this prestigious literary award. 'Tomb of Sand' has become the first book in any Indian language to win the prestigious International Booker Prize.

At a function in London on Thursday, Gitanjali Shree said she was "absolutely overwhelmed" by "Bolt from the Blue". He received his award of 50,000 GBP and shared it with the book's English translator, Daisy Rockwell. She said that, I never dreamed of Booker, I never thought I could do it. What a big deal, I feel shocked, happy, honored and humbled. He said that getting this award has a different kind of satisfaction. He said that, 'Sand Samadhi /' Tomb of Sand' is an ode to the world in which we live. Booker will surely pass this on to many more people.

Geetanjali Shree further said that, behind me and this novel there is a rich and literary tradition in Hindi and other South Asian languages. World literature would be richer to know some of the best writers of these languages. Such conversations will increase the vocabulary of life. Rockwell, a painter, writer and translator living in Vermont, USA, shared the stage with her.
