CHANDIGARH:  Instead of implementing the 'Agnipath' scheme, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stated on Saturday that youths who have passed physical tests in the last two years should be given the opportunity to sit for the written exam for joining the Indian Army.

In a statement, he reiterated his demand for the system to be scrapped, saying that it is ludicrous that thousands of young people have passed the physical test for the armed forces in the last two years but have not been called for the written exam.

On the contrary, the NDA government launched the 'Agnipath' scheme, which permits youths to serve in the army for four years without receiving a pension.

The Chief Minister stated that the Union government should reverse this policy and allow youth who have passed their physical exam in the previous two years to sit for the written exam. He said that this will provide them with an equal opportunity to join the Indian Army and serve their homeland. He said.
