Panaji: On Saturday night, ailing Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar was hospitalised. The Chief Minister’s Office said in a statement that Parrikar was admitted to the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for upper GI endoscopy. The Goa CMO said “His health condition continues to be stable. He will remain there under observation for around 48 hours,”. As the 63-year-old Parrikar was taken to the GMCH, police presence was beefed up outside the hospital. Parrikar has been suffering from a pancreatic ailment since February last year and has undergone treatment at a number of hospitals, including in the United States and at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi.

In continuation of it Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said: "He is absolutely fine and is under observation for a day. Tomorrow he will go home. There is nothing to worry or speculate. He is here for a check-up; doctors must have wanted some tests to be done."

Earlier in the day, senior Goa minister Vijai Sardesai refuted rumours that the Chief Minister had been put on life support system. Sardesai, who is agriculture minister in the Parrikar government, said this after meeting the CM at his residence, before he was shifted to the hospital. The minister, however, refused to say whether the CM’s health was stable. When asked if Parrikar's health is stable, he said: "I am not a doctor. I discussed a lot of things with him, including politics and clearing of files. I don't think it (Parrikar's health) is as bad as it is made out to be."

However, rumours started circulating about Parrikar's health after a team of doctors arrived at his residence on Friday night. According to sources, the CM had complained of breathlessness over the last two days and was administered oxygen artificially.
