Goa CM Pramod Sawant issued a statement on Tuesday's assembly elections. He said, the state assembly elections are likely to be held on schedule next year, meaning February 2022. Sawant had announced last week that the BJP would contest under his leadership.

Political parties have already started preparing for the elections, though all have been asked to campaign in view of the corona transition. Aspiring candidates from most of the parties have also started claiming tickets and announced their candidature. BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) BL Santosh and Goa desk in-charge Ct Ravi had arrived in the state last week to inspect the political situation in Goa.

It is expected to be visited by congress high command envoys in Goa, with state desk in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao likely to arrive this week ahead of an organisational change within the state Congress unit. Rao is expected to hold meetings in every of the 40 constituencies to inspect the party's presence at the grassroots level. Meanwhile, regional organisation GFP is trying to form a grand alliance to defeat the BJP in the upcoming assembly elections. Party president Vijay Sardesai had recently called upon the opposition to come together to defeat the BJP in the elections.
