Panaji: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has flagged off 20 electric buses at Cujira Bus Stop in Bambolim. The  project has been taken up under the Smart City initiative, and the electric buses are disabled-friendly, said officials.

This effort, which aims to give residents of the state access to more inexpensive and effective travel options, is said to be a crucial step towards the electrification of public transit in the State. Chef Misnter  Sawant said  that his administration is dedicated to providing citizens with affordable and effective transport options.

In order to maintain bus service after 8 o'clock in the evening, he also said that private buses will be integrated into the system. By the end of the next year, the Goa government hopes to have charging stations installed at all government buildings and petrol stations.

150 electric buses will be made accessible to state passengers by the end of July of this year, according to Transport Minister Shri Mauvin Godinho, who was also present.

Similarly, the Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) in Chhattisgarh plans to introduce e-buses in the state capital of Raipur within its purview.Ten electric buses will be brought  initially, and depending on their viability, additional buses may be purchased, according to the officials.

Sunil Kumar Chandravanshi, an additional commissioner of RMC, said: "Under the government's ambitious scheme, 10 e-buses will be purchased to promote the electric vehicle and a tender in this regard has been floated."

Officials claim that the deployment of these buses will significantly contribute to a reduction in vehicle emissions. This move will also help  reduce significant diesel costs. Buses will only be powered by electricity, eliminating all noise and emissions. As electric buses become more popular, all diesel buses will be replaced as funding permits.
