Shiv Sena has put forward a demand for President’s Rule in Goa on Tuesday saying that the state is ‘headless’ without chief minister Manohar Parrikar. 

Shiv Sena Goa spokesperson Rakhi Prabhudesai Naik demanded President’s Rule on behalf of the party.

“In absence of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, the state is left headless, and deserves to be ruled by [the] president of India through his emissaries,” said Naik as quoted by PTI.

Naik opined that President’s Rule will bring in central government which will relieve the plight of people associated with the state’s mining industry. He added that people dependent on the mining industry have been given fake promises and nothing is being done in this regard by the cabinet advisory committee.

“No solution has been provided to their problems and certainly, in the current situation, we can’t expect a solution from the cabinet advisory committee which is the least bothered about people,” said Naik.

The apex court had, in February, quashed an order from Goa government directing the mining companies to renew their licences and ordered the mining industries to put an end to mining activities by March 16.

Parrikar is currently in the United States of America for medical treatment. He complained of abdominal pain and was admitted to Goa Medical College and Hospital from where he was referred to Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai. He was discharged on February 22 but was readmitted three days later. He finally for the US for further treatment.

He had formed a three-member advisory committee to direct the state administration before departing for the US but Naik claimed that the committee has not held any meeting on the mining issue.
