Goa: HC judge recuses himself from hearing against Congress MLAs who joined BJP

Goa: A judge of the Goa bench of the Bombay High Court has distanced himself from hearing a petition against ten rebel Congress MLAs. Yes, in fact, all this happened last Monday. According to the information received, Goa Congress chief Girish Chodankar had in the petition sought disqualification of 10 former party MLAs who joined the ruling BJP in 2019.

You must be aware that Goa Assembly Speaker Rajesh Patnekar refused to disqualify these MLAs in April. Chodankar then challenged the order in the high court. The hearing on the petition began on Monday before a bench of Justices Ms Sonak and MH Javalkar last Monday.

Meanwhile, Justice Sonak said, "He has appeared before on behalf of some of the litigants involved so he is keeping himself out of the matter. In such a case, the hearing in the case will now be placed before the Special Clause Bench for which Chodankar will have to make an appeal.
