Panaji: The Goa State Election Commission today issued orders for postponement of elections to Panaji Municipal Corporation, 11 municipal councils, and bye-elections to various gram panchayats for three months. In fact, earlier, these elections were due on 18th October last year, but the Commission adjourned them for three months in view of the covid-19 epidemic. Now, the Commission has once again informed about it.
In a communique issued on Monday, the commission said, "Elections to 11 municipal councils, municipal elections to Panaji City, bye-elections towards of various gram panchayats, and elections to Nalim (South Goa) District Panchayat constituency are postponed for three months till April 2021 or till the next date of the election scheduled by the Commission.''
Further, the communique did not say what is the reason for postponing the elections. There are 12 municipal councils and one municipal corporation in the coastal state. In fact, the tenure of 11 municipal councils in Goa was completed on 4th November 2020. Thereafter, the Directorate of Municipal Administration had appointed administrators for these bodies.
