Panaji: There is a furor after the indecent video of Goa Swimming Association head coach Surjit Ganguly surfaced. In the video that went viral last week, Ganguly was seen sexually abusing a minor swimmer. Now the question arises as to whether the Goa government and the association were not aware of sexual abuse of female swimmers beforehand?
Even before Surjeet Ganguly's video surfaced, Leader of the Opposition in the House Digambar Kamat had demanded Sports Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar to appoint a woman coach for women swimmers during the last session. The Leader of the Opposition also warned about the possible consequences in the event of not doing so.
Kamat had said in the state assembly, "Girls are facing shame and problems. There is not a single female coach. Please keep this in mind. This is very important, otherwise, I don't know what to do in the future. I am telling you now because later you will say that you have not been told. The family is insisting on the appointment of a female coach, which is absolutely right. "
