The price monitoring and resource unit (PMRU) is to be set up in Goa under the aegis of the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA). The government said PMRU in Goa will function at the state level. The direct supervision of the state drug controller for increasing outreach of the NPPA, will be made. The ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers told in as statement. Under the Consumer Awareness, Publicity and Price Monitoring (CAPPM) scheme, NPPA has already set up PMRUs in 15 states/ UTs.
But the national pharma pricing regulator is planning to set up PMRU at all 36 states/ UTs in the country. The recurring and non-recurring expenses of PMRU will be provided by the NPPA under the Consumer Awareness, Publicity and Price Monitoring (CAPPM) scheme.

The PMRU primary function is to assist the NPPA in monitoring prices of drugs, ensuring availability of drugs and raising consumer awareness and is expected to strengthen drug security and affordability at regional levels. With allegations of high pricing, dark business intrusion in the field a government body like PMRU is mandatory for every state to avoid mishaps in the healthcare and pharmaceutical industry.
