Goa CM orders launch of Tika Utsav, vaccination to be essential

Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today said on Friday that the Goa government will launch a 'Tika Utsav' to immunize more and more people above the age of 45 years. The campaign has been launched a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a virtual conference with the Chief Ministers. Talking about the campaign, Pramod Sawant has said, "Tika Utsav will be held across the state from April 11-14, 2021 in Goa. The campaign will be launched at the panchayat level to immunize as many people as you can as much as you can."

Further, the Chief Minister also said, "It will be celebrated in all gram panchayats of Goa. We have the infrastructure available. The Prime Minister has also emphasized testing, tracking. We are increasing the number of tests along with vaccination. If all those above the age of 45 years get vaccinated, 50 percent of the population in the State will be covered."

In a further statement, Pramod Sawant also said that SOP and vaccination are the only solution to the Covid-19 crisis and not lockdown. At the same time, he also refused to impose curfew one night and said, "Since Goa is a tourist destination, it is not a primary option here. Also, he said, "But people should not go out for no reason and avoid getting out at night.'' A total of 582 covid-19 people have tested positive in Goa in the last 24 hours and there are 3,331 active cases.
