Gold Coast CWG 2018: Para-athlete Sakina Khatun conferred conditional slot

New Delhi [India], Feb 20 (NT): After snubbed from the Commonwealth Games 2018 in the Gold Coast Australia, Indian para-powerlifter Sakina has been conferred a conditional slot in women's lightweight Para Power lifting event of the esteemed games.

Sakina is the only Indian para-athlete to seal a medal at the Commonwealth Games - bronze in lightweight category in Glasgow – so for. She was earlier overlooked during the selection of the contingent for the CWG 2018.

Conditional slot for Sakina 28-year-old from the Indian contingent for the Games came in spite of the athlete meeting the eligibility criteria as marked by the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF).

In a letter to Indian Olympic Association (IOA) Secretary General Rajeev Mehta, Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) CEO, Group Captain Shahrukh Shamshad (Retd.) expressed thanks to Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) and International Paralympic Committee (IPC) for conferring a conditional slot to Sakina for 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, Australia is lined up to be held from April 4 and will run till April 15.(NT)

For now, Sakina has also written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting his intervention in the same and pointed out in her letter to PM Modi that she meets the eligibility criteria needed for the Games. She added that she is determined to win another medal for the country.
