New Delhi: A day after Dhanteras, gold prices fell in Indian markets today. December futures gold fell 0.32 per cent on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) on the day of Roop Chaturdashi. Meanwhile, December futures silver lost 0.11 per cent. The sale of gold jewellery and coins had reached the pre-covid level on Dhanteras day, regaining the lost lustre. Selling of Rs 75,000 crore has been reported across the country on Dhanteras. About 15 tons of gold jewellery were sold.

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has reported that the jewellery industry has recovered from the recession caused by the epidemic. CAIT said this includes an estimated sale of Rs 1,000 crore in Delhi, about Rs 1,500 crore in Maharashtra, about Rs 600 crore in UP. In South India, sales are estimated to be around Rs 2,000 crore. According to Ashish Pethe, Chairman, All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council, as the economy improves, retail gold purchases in India are likely to remain strong during Diwali.

On Wednesday, December futures gold fell 151 rupees, to 47,417 rupees per 10 grams on MCX. Gold prices are down Rs 8,783 per 10 grams from august's high levels last year. Gold touched Rs 56,200 in August.
