New Delhi: No case of new Corona Variant C.1.2 has been registered in India so far. Official sources reported it. A new variant of the deadly infection has been revealed amid the growing difficulty of delta variants of the corona. South African experts have detected a new variant of SARS-CoV-2, which causes by the virus corona, known as C.1.2.

The same new variant has been reported in South Africa and many other countries globally. C.1.2 was first identified in May 2021 during the third wave of corona in the country. Since then it has been found in most provinces of South Africa and seven other countries spread across Africa, Europe, Asia, and Oceania. The researcher said in the study that it has not yet been reviewed and posted on the pre-print server. The Medrexiv variant has developed from C.1, one of the genealogies that dominated the first wave of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in South Africa and were last reported in January 2021.

According to the study, C.1.2 contains 41.8 mutations per year. It is about 1.7 times faster than the current global rate and 1.8 times faster than the current estimate of SARS-CoV-2 growth. About 52 percent of spike mutations identified in C.1.2 have previously been identified in other VOI and VOCs. These include D614G, normal for all variants, and E484K and N501Y, shared with beta and gamma, E484K in Eta, and N501Y in Alpha.
