Good News for Railway Passengers! Waiting Ticket Issue to be Resolved Soon with Railways' New Plan

New Delhi: Good news for rail passengers is on the horizon. In the coming times, railway passengers will have confirmed tickets. Indian Railways is planning to operate 3,000 new trains by 2027. The plan is to introduce 3,000 more trains on the tracks in the next 3-4 years. Currently, passengers can also avail confirmed tickets from the Headquarters (HQ) or High Officials Quota (HOQ) in Kota. The entire process for this is detailed below.

Preparation for 3,000 trains by 2027
According to media reports, currently, 10,748 trains are running daily, with approximately 800 crore passengers traveling each year. In view of the continuous increase in population, the railway aims to increase the number of passengers to 1,000 crores in the next three to four years. To achieve this, a plan is in place to operate an additional 3,000 trains. The railway has 69,000 new coaches available, and a subsidiary company is manufacturing 5,000 new coaches annually. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav mentioned that the railway is working continuously to increase track capacity and operate more trains. The goal of the railway is to provide convenient travel for everyone.

Vande Bharat trains to be included
According to media reports, due to having coaches, the railway can start approximately 200 to 250 new trains every year. In addition to this, there are 400 to 450 Vande Bharat trains that will be included in the railway's fleet in the coming years. Based on the increasing number of passengers, many trips of these trains will be operated. Along with this, work will be done to expand tracks, increase speed, and enhance acceleration and deceleration. Although the railway is increasing tracks every year, recently, a new network of 4 to 5 thousand kilometers has been built. This year, the number of special trains during the festive season has increased nearly threefold. Between October 1 and December 31, 6,754 special trains are being operated, whereas last year during the same period, there were only 2,614.

Currently, confirmed tickets can be obtained through this quota
Before 2027, passengers can also get confirmed tickets from the Headquarters (HQ) or High Officials Quota (HOQ). Generally, this quota is for people traveling in emergencies and VIPs, and that's why it is not used during ticket booking.

To avail this, passengers need to first take a general waiting list ticket, and then the ticket is confirmed through the HQ. To benefit from this, the passenger has to apply one day before the travel date, proving that there is an emergency and the journey is essential. All documents proving the emergency need to be submitted to the Chief Reservation Supervisor, and a form needs to be filled out. Then, the form needs to be signed by a Gazetted Officer, and the seat is confirmed. The waiting ticket is then confirmed, and this process begins one day before the chart preparation.
