Google celebrates P. C. Mahalanobis 125th birthday through Doodle

Today, on June 29, Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, a statistician and scientist's 125th birthday is Statistics Day. Google has greeted him with a doodle. Mahalanobis was born on 29 June 1883 in Kolkata. Mahalanobis is known for doing remarkable work in statistics. This doodle has been made by Google to wish and celebrate his birthday.  He invented the 'Mahalanobis distance' used for measurement in Population Studies.

Mahalanobis was earlier a member of the Planning Commission and he played an important role in setting up the Indian Statistical Institute (Indian Statistical Institute). At the same time, he also formed the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) and the Central Statistical Organization (CSO).

Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis was awarded the Padma Vibhushan by the Government of India for his statistical work. He also contributed to India's second five-year plan. He also did his research in anthropology, economics, physics to develop better approaches in the field of population studies, consumption and crop yields. 

Along with the formation of these important institutions, Mahalanobis also worked in the Presidency College in Kolkata. He also used anthropology, economics and physics to better measure subjects in populations, consumption and crop production. Mahalanobis was considered one of the world's famous economists and mathematicians at his own time. He died on June 28, 1972.
