USA: It's official! Google Chrome will no longer receive security updates from January 10 on desktops running Windows 7 and 8/8.1. Microsoft ended security support for these versions three years ago.

Now it's Google's turn to take it back. Desktops currently run Chrome 109, and this will be the last version of the web browser to be supported on the above mentioned OS versions.

Due to security issues and regulatory requirements, OEMs often stop supporting older or incompatible operating system versions when new OS versions are released.

The most recent computers to be affected are those running Windows 7 and 8/8.1. Google has decided to stop providing security updates for Chrome on these OS versions in response to Microsoft's announcement to end support.

According to Google a new version of Chrome Chrome 110 has been released. The launch date has been set for February 7, 2023. For the first time, users of Chrome will need access to a PC running Windows 10 or later to use this version of the browser. Because of this, desktops running Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 will not be able to access this browser.

On desktops running Windows 7 and 8/8.1, Chrome 109 will continue to work. However, users of this web browser version will not receive any updates from Google.

So it will be devoid of new features going forward. Additionally, due to the lack of security updates, it will be more vulnerable to security risks and vulnerabilities. Therefore, the only option is to purchase a supported version of Windows.

You should update your desktop to Windows 10 or later immediately if you want to use the upcoming "Chrome 110" browser version. After opening them go to "Update & Security" in "Windows Update" settings.
